I cannot switch the MBAir off. Is trere a way to force or somehow reset the computer>
Pressing numerous buttons has not switched the power off.
Urgeny help please?

If you push and hold the Power button, it should power off in around three seconds.
If that doesn't work, try Control + Option + Command + Eject key
Have you tried navigating to the toolbar > Shut Down?
Let me know if you have tried all of those things, and if none of those work, I can give you a little more in depth way of forcing it off.

Pressing buttons may only delay the response of your MacBook air. Best option considering you've tried what seems like the primary ways to power down your device... is to simply keep your fingers on CTRL + OPT + ⌘ + Eject Key.
Hold until power is off on your MacBook 🙂
Thanks you all for your helpful tips, I take note of it all.
The screen was totally dark, no images no cursor nothing.
The case was getting abnormally hot.
I took the bottom plate off and disconnected the battery, left it off for a while and reassembled the case, restarted OK.
